Allegra’s Perfect Hanuka Sugar Cookie Dough Recipe

My sister in law Allegra is famous for her Hanuka and Purim parties. She puts extra special effort into making these holidays exciting for all her kids, nieces, nephews, and all of the extra guests that seem to find their way into her home. This is her favorite sugar cookie recipe. It tastes best when rolled out very thin and topped with fun sprinkles, frostings, chocolate chips, or whatever sugary toppings that you can concoct with your kids. Don’t forget to buy your Hanuka cookie cutter shapes!

    Some decorating tips:
I decorated these cookies with royal icing – its an easy recipe and it dries beautiful and hard, but you’ll need meringue powder. My recipe is 2 tbs Wilton meringue powder, mixed with 1/4 cup of water, and then whipped with 2 cups confectioners sugar until the icing is stiff and glossy. Add TINY bits of food coloring at a time to get your desired tint. (I use a toothpick to help me with this.)
You can use disposable piping bags with a small round tip… (I liked Wilton #5 the best), and whatever sprinkles you like.
Let the cookies dry for a few hours until the icing has hardened.
    Good luck!

    Marlene,

I made Allegra’s cookies today and they look great! I rolled it on parchment because it was a little sticky on the granite. Anyway, it made for a beautiful Hanukkah cookie! Thank you!
