“Hi Marlene,

My daughter’s a little ballerina, and for her 5th birthday she just HAD to have a ballerina party. It was a ton of work, but it was worth every second.

I used a damask pattern for all my printed items like the popcorn boxes, the personalized cup wrappers, the invitation, the cup wrappers, the tutu nametags, platter liners and the chocolate wrappers. I designed a ballerina silhouette for the invitation and nametags, and I used the same silhouette for the backdrop. I cut it out of foam board and glittered her up! I used fabric and tulle for her tutu for a 3 dimensional look. The backdrop was made to look like a stage with fabric draping, and the ballerina in the center.

I used fondant to decorate the cake and the cupcake toppers.

The milk bottles were actually Starbucks Frappucino bottles that I got from Costco. I filled them with milk and strawberry milk syrup.

To make the desserts look like beautiful dancing ballerinas, I made pink meringue “skirts” and stuck in pink cardstock ballerina toppers.

Before I baked the ballet slipper cookies, I poked two holes through the dough using a straw. This way I was able to lace a ribbon through the cookie and tie in a bow. I decorated them with sugar icing.

Other yummy pink desserts were pink popcorn and pink rice crispy treats, both made with strawberry marshmallow fluff, and pink cotton candy in little cones.

You can see more pictures, details, and download all these free printables on my blog Blowout Party.” Amy Oren

An Almost-Spring Sheva Berachot by Ruthie Bodner

Thank you Ruthy Bodner for sending in your beautiful sheva berachot pics to share with our Jewish Hostess readers!

I especially love your blue and orange floral themed tables- so springy and  bright! Your place cards and challah plate with the molded rose butter (or margarine) add such a festive touch.  I’m sure your sheva berachot dinner party was a huge success! Marlene

Pictures above- I enjoy doctoring placecards and having fun with that. My husband and I collect salt and pepper shakers and like to to put out the wedding themed ones at our Sheva Berachot tables.

Lego Pieces Centerpiece
-At the time, my son used his Lego skills for the centerpiece. Cute, no? The whole family gets involved with poster making, signage, collages etc.

Jewish Table Arrangement
-Took the arrangements from a wedding and made up a focal point for the kitchen/bar area.

Jewish Table Settings Banner
-Saw similar personalized banners on different websites and attempted to personalize this SB for our friend. Had a blast doing it but it’s not as easy as it looks. Time consuming.

Fruit Centerpiece
-Plants were inexpensively purchased at Costco and I put them in this display as a centerpiece for an almost spring Sheva Berachot.

Thanks Lisa Bailey for sending in this yummy Shabbat Panzanella salad recipe!

Panzanella salad is  from the cuisine of Tuscany, Italy, who have always made innovative uses for their “leftovers”, including their leftover crusty bread. There are many variations for this delicious Panzanella salad, and I also like this version with basil pesto from  the passionate cook. I also did an extra bit of research and added a Panzanella recipe video from Tribeca Grill.
Enjoy Lisa’s recipe! Try it this Shabbat for lunch.

I’m posting  this kosher recipe Monday, July 11 in honor of Lisa’s new addition to the family! Mabrook!

Hi Marlene,

I love trying new light salads for saturday lunch in the summer . My favorite is bread salad . It’s so colorful and makes a beautiful presentation!

Ingredients:

  • One loaf Italian bread ,one day old cut into cubes
  •                   Mozzarella cheese (I like the one from Costco)
  •                   A bunch of fresh basil, chopped
  •                   About 2 dozen sun dried tomatoes  in oil chopped
  •                   About 2 dozen grape tomatoes chopped
  •                    1-2  Avocados cut up
  •                    Juice of 3 lemons
  •                    Extra virgin olive oil
  •                    Balsamic vinegar to taste

Directions:

Chop all ingredients and mix. You can add the olive oil as desired.
If you would like it to be pareve leave out the cheese .
Hope you enjoy!
