Gold is Here to Stay for Your Holiday Table Top!!!

4 Comments 09 December 2011

Thanks Karen Tawil for sharing  your GOLD table setting for your holiday table!

I’ve been getting tired of the same old  silver, and I’m so ready for for some matte and polished GOLD  inspiration! Marlene

“Hi Marlene, I’m loving all the brushed gold that I’ve been seeing, so I got in the mood to set my table using gold accessories, which I haven’t used in a while. My house is contemporary so a lot of my old things are too traditional. I updated with a few new items, and as they say, “mix the old with the new”.

By the way the tablecloths are all custom sizes which my daughter Rachel is selling. I have two square tables and she got me gorgeous 90 by 90 squares which I have a hard time finding in a store. So to all the Jewish Hostesses, bring  out  your gold table decor, because  “Gold is Back”!!! Karen T :-)”

Not Your Grandma’s Shabbat Dinner Table…

3 Comments 16 April 2010

Not that there is anything wrong with my grandma, there is no chicer woman on earth and I steal almost all of my ideas from her…. But, this modern table setting is not quite her type!!!  First, I used a scrap of fabric that I had left over from my bulletin board project, and I threw it on the table… I like that it doesnt cover the entire table‘s width, and that the front and back edges are cut not sewn. I think it adds to the flavor!

I used my basic white dishes instead of my “fancy” ones, but I mixed them with the gold silverware that I normally use with my other set. (Sometimes a basic white dish is the best thing you can ask for! It may be boring, but it allows you to be so much more creative with your accessories!)

I used black linen napkins from Conran Shop in lucite napkin rings, and the woven wicker placemats were from Pottery Barn. I love the wicker placemats, they add texture to the table.  My kiddush cup was once part of a set that I bought at an antique store, but alas, it is the lone survivor!

I used a gold leaf tray from home goods for my challah… The two black studded vases are also from home goods. The center one is from Ikea and I think it is probably the best $49 dollars I ever spent!

Of course, I will be adding little bowls of olives, and some of my meal to the table so I dont want to clutter it up before they even get here. I will be moving the big vase to the server when we sit at the table.

What do you think? I think its pretty cool!!!

Separates are great

by Marceline Gindi

Passover is around the corner and with all our kitchen duties; we find time to obsess over what to wear…  So whether you are home, or away for the holidays, everyone wants a fresh new look.  Don’t forget spring  (should be) is in the air.

Right now you’re probably confused with all the trends.

I know sometimes I get crazy from all of the choices. My belief is, always be classic but with an element of surprise. For Passover Seder nights separates are great, like printed flirty skirts with solid knits Try adding a trendy chunky necklace, or a beautiful jeweled belt. Structured military style skirts with silk blouses are a cool twist.

So what if u want to wear last years dress?
No worries! BCBG has cool and affordable belts that will quickly update your look. You can even put a structured blazer over any dress for a tailored style, Zara has a bunch in all colors and they look great.

How about going for some gold?  As in shoes of course!   Any Yves Saint Laurent platforms are to die for.   Or Valentino wedge espadrilles go from day to night.

So whatever you choose, have fun, walk tall, because being happy and feeling great is the best fashion DO!

Happy Holidays!
