No Comments 19 May 2013

Enjoy this Rosh Hashanah inspiration from 2011….

Feast your eyes on this colorful and daring Rosh Hashanah holiday table that Candy Gabbay whipped up after dashing to the Missoni Target sale last week! Candy is constantly ahead of the trends, it’s no wonder that she pulled this hot table decor  together using a MISSONI SHOWER CURTAIN!!!

P.S  If your table setting is fun, unique, inspiring,  and one of a kind, then we want to see it too!!!! Send it over to marlene (at )thejewishhostess.com!!!

“Hi Marlene,

Since the only thing I could find of Missoni in Target was a shower curtain, I had to buy it even though I didn’t need one! So, I decided to turn it into a table cloth and base my table settings around it! It’s so fun and colorful, just like me! I got so many comments on it as my BBM picture, so I decided to share it with your website. The photos are attached, if you have any problems opening it let me know!
I put a solid black tablecloth first. Then took the Missoni reversible shower curtain and placed in center and folded sides up so you would see the black and white pattern along the edge of table. I bought flowers that coordinated with the colors on the curtain and placed them in small circular vases down center of table. Found the exact green from the cloth in plates at Amazing Savings and loved the cool shape. Added black and white napkins, a Missoni candle, and last but not least my outrageous challah cover that I needle pointed myself! As you can see I like color!”

             “Hi Marlene,

Hope this finds you well. I’m sending you some Passover tablescapes from years past.  Haha, no pun intended

Many Jewish families already have many of the kinds of items I used for this “Exodus from Egypt” themed table- various clay and brass pots and vases, and even wooden camels!  The palm leaves are from the plants in my front yard. Blue and black paired with gold and silver is reminiscent of ancient Egypt.  Metal bangle bracelets from the local flea market make awesome napkin rings. Finally a gold chain around the table with place cards tied to them remind us how we were chained together in bondage, and how we are bound together in our heritage.
Here are a few more ideas!
Covered Hagadot and flowers make an elegant spring theme for any Passover table!
Another favorite of mine, our Nile theme, with my version of Miriam and Yochevet looking on among the reeds (Ross finds!) Baby Moshe name card holders (below) add a whimsical touch for the young and young at heart!
If you like what you see please LIKE our page BSG TABLESCAPES on facebook for many good ideas.
Wishing you a happy and healthy Pesach!

Make Your Own Gorgeous Holiday Napkin Rings In 10 Minutes or Less!

2 Comments 25 September 2011

With only a couple of days to count down to the Jewish holidays, its time to start thinking about a creative table setting. If you would like to add some down to earth homemade creativity to your holiday table then these do it yourself napkin rings will add a touch of elegance without making much of a dent in your wallet! Don’t forget that you can match the ribbon to your holiday  table setting theme whether it be Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, Tu Bishvat, Chanuka,  Purim or Passover!

Gather round the kids or any extra hands in the house, and you will be done in a jiffy.

You will need:

  1. Several cardboard paper towel rolls.
  2. Choose about 3 yards of an elegant ribbon about 1 1/2 inches wide to make about 24 napkin rings.
  3. Choose a matching solid ribbon to line the inside of  your paper towel holder.
  4. Choose a thin metallic ribbon (I chose a silver thin ribbon to match my moroccan style ribbon)
  5. Buy double sided fabric tape. (I found that fabric glue can be very messy)

How to:

1-Cut your paper towel holder into equal sizes about 1/4 inch narrower than your ribbon, marking your “cut” lines with a pencil beforehand.

2- Measure and cut the ribbon to fit around the perimeter of the cardboard holder overlapping slightly. The overlap will be the underside of your napkin ring.

3- Line the inside of your napkin ring with the matching ribbon (It doesn’t matter which step you do first)

4- Cover the overlap edges with the narrow matching ribbon, and glue with krazy glue.

5- You can mix blues and vary your hues……. -

6- Slide in a pretty flower, layer over a pretty salad plate….

6

7- You can even layer your place settings over two table runners set across from each other.

This Moroccan style table runner is from Kim Seybert.
