British Themed Bridal Shower by Daniella Salem

No Comments 07 January 2013

What a stunning bridal shower! Thanks for sending in these photos, Nathalie! Im loving how your “mum” used the patten of the British flag to line the fabulous cupcakes, cake pops, and desserts! Love the umbrella invitation, and fish and chips too. The colors happen to be such a bright and gorgeous contrast. I’m sure it looked “smashing”!

Marlene

Hi Marlene,

My mum, Daniella Salem, made me the most amazing shower when I was getting married last year. The theme was British because I grew up there. The invitation was an umbrella because it always rains there. Everything was red, white and blue and she even made fish and chips to stick with the theme! But the most spectacular part was the dessert table which was covered completely in flowers with white desserts only. It was the most magnificent shower! She used the center flower strip for a gorgeous table later in the week. No one does it like my mum :) Best,

Nathalie (Salem) Galapo

“There’s nothing like a house party. Especially when it comes to bridal showers.  No matter the shape or size, a party will always feel most intimate when it’s at home. Yes, hosting a party in your home is probably going to be more work than holding it elsewhere, but when the party is in your home, it really reflects who you are- your taste, your style. And isn’t home where the heart is, after all? A few weeks ago I hosted a bridal shower for my future sister-in-law. It was a wonderful brunch for about 30 wonderful women. I decided not to go the usual bagels and lox route, instead I served lots of beautiful fresh salads , and an Asian salmon. The food seemed to go over very well, but the dessert table really stole the show.  In my opinion, it’s all in the details. You can have the most mouth-watering desserts, but if they aren’t set up in a beautiful way, you simply are not doing them justice. To display my desserts, I pulled out all the square or rectangular glass vases that I had saved. Colorful fruit in glass square vases contrasted the sharp white meringues and chocolate drizzled macaroons. Little towers made up of brownies, hello dolly squares and biscotti lined my kitchen island. And of course, a fun cake was the center of attention.  The cake made by Alexandra Zohn a pastry Chef and owner of Three Tablespoons, became the table’s centerpiece as I elevated it by placing it up top a large square glass vase. Displaying your desserts on different levels truly creates a showcase, rather than having all the desserts placed flat out on the table. The little touches become the most touching: hot pink personalized napkins, a glass beverage server (you can find them online) filled with water that’s been flavored with lemon and orange slices and some fresh mint leaves, glasses of Mimosas garnished with a frozen raspberry….  And, of course, every great party needs a great party favor- in this case, personalized bottles of Rose (I forgot to hand them out, but that’s besides the point!). The truth of the matter is, that it can’t only look good, but it all has got to taste as good as it looks. And, I can proudly say that the ladies went crazy for my miniature peanut butter cups, my fig biscotti, and my mother-in-law’s divine carrot cake.  I’ve never seen such drop-dead gorgeous women stand around my apartment scarfing down cookies and cake-and nothing makes me happier!

Sweet Designs: Bake It, Craft It, Style It

“Hi Marlene,

For my shower, my mom and I worked day and night putting it all together. I knew I wanted to have a candy bar and got tons of inspiration from Amy Atlas site.  Desserts were made by Shirley C. Mamiye and Mari Gindi. My invitation was hot pink and zebra and the entire party stemmed from there. From table cloth, to flowers, to finding hot pink (and only hot pink) candy!, we worked really hard to tie it all together. Paula Benz”

Paulina’s Bridal Shower- “Fashion 2010″

4 Comments 16 December 2010

My friend Esther Saada sent me these fabulous pictures from her daughter Paulina’s bridal shower.  I’m sure that you will enjoy the creativity and detail that went into this sweet and stylish event.- Marlene M.

“Paulina’s bridal  shower theme was sparked by a Dress A Bride charity  bake-off. Esther Chrem, (Paulina’s sister in law) called  Paulina and asked  if Paulina would like to come over and help come up with the theme of a cake for Esther to design for the charity. They spoke about what could be a cool, sharp new theme and they came up with “Fashion 2010″.  The bake off consisted of 4 teams of bakers. Each designed a beautiful cake, but Esther  Chrem won first place!

During the bake-off the attendees had the opportunity to bid on a cake, so of course I bid on the one that Esther baked and I won the bid! The bottom of the cake was a leopard animal print.  The second layer was black studded , and the next layer was a red Hermes crocodile bag. The top tier was a black studded Louboutin shoe. In the close up picture you can see  that Esther even wrote out the name inside the shoe and also made the red heel just like the original shoe! Surrounding the cake are fashion trends from 2010 such as the fingerless glove and the jeweled bib necklace. The cake was done with edible fondant, edible silver beads and edible rock candy.

To coordinate with the theme of the shower , Esther created  mini red Hermes handbag cookies, mini jeweled bib necklaces, and an assortment of shoe cookies. To pick up the red in the cake, I ordered flowers in red, and draped a leopard silk tablecloth topper over the table. I also scattered some pages from Vogue magazine, and photos of designer shoes and placed them around the table.Hope you enjoy these pics as much as I enjoyed hosting the shower!” Esther Saada
